Municipal Election for City Council September 28

The four-year term for the current St. John’s City Council ends in October 2021. The City will be once again using the Vote-By-Mail system for the 2021 election on Tuesday, September 28.
 
The timeline for the 2021 municipal election is:

Nominations open:             Tuesday, August 24          
Nominations close:             Tuesday, August 31          
Election Period begins:       Second week of September (exact date TBA)
Election day:                       Tuesday, September 28
Swearing in Ceremony:      Tuesday, October 12        

Prospective candidates will have the option to run for one of the following 11 positions:

  • Mayor
  • Deputy Mayor
  • Councillor at Large (four positions)
  • Councillor - Ward 1
  • Councillor - Ward 2
  • Councillor - Ward 3
  • Councillor - Ward 4
  • Councillor - Ward 5

Further information regarding the voters’ list, the Vote-By-Mail process and candidate information will be released soon, with updates available on the City’s website under Municipal Election.
