The City of St. John’s is discontinuing the ‘My Waste’ app launched in 2012 and residents are encouraged to download the new ‘City of St. John’s Waste and Recycling’ app for future use. The new app can be found by searching ‘St. John’s Waste and Recycling’ in the app store (iPhone and Android), by visiting the Curb It St. John’s website or on the Garbage and Recycling section of the City of St. John's website.

“What’s great about this new app is you will receive reminders so that you never have to miss garbage or recycling day,” said Jonathan Galgay, Chair of the Public Works Standing Committee. “An alternate option to the app is available on the Curb It St. John's website, click on ‘When is my collection day’, and choose how and when you want to receive your reminders. You can select to get your reminders by automated telephone call, text message, direct twitter message or email.”

Once you have the app or are signed up online, you will receive weekly reminders and you will also be notified of schedule changes due to weather, holidays and upcoming events. Additionally, you will receive information about seasonal campaigns such as bulk garbage pickups, leaf collection, Christmas tree recycling, and garbage covering bylaw.

“Another great feature of the new app is the ‘Put Waste In Its Place’ lookup. If you are not sure how to dispose of an item you can do a quick search and it will let you know whether it can be recycled and where it should go,” said Galgay.
