The City of St. John’s New Year’s Eve fireworks display will occur at 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 31 over Quidi Vidi Lake. In the case of unsuitable weather for fireworks, they will be postponed to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 1, 2021.

Keeping COVID-19 guidelines in mind, the City recommends attendees remain in their vehicles to watch the fireworks. If exiting vehicles or walking to the site, wear a facemask and remain in your bubble with 6 feet physical distance from others.

The NYE fireworks are funded in part by the Government of Canada.

All other City-hosted New Year’s Eve events are cancelled this year including gym activities, skating parties and the Countdown Celebration & DJ event at Quidi Vidi Lake.

To celebrate the holidays safely this season the City is introducing two new opportunities:

Holiday Trail Mix
Dec. 22 to Jan. 4
Local musicians have curated a playlist of their holiday music for you. Find the Holiday Trail Mix at musicnl.ca/holidaytrailmix. Temporary signs on trails in some City parks and the Grand Concourse will give direction of how to listen on your smartphone. Enjoy the outdoors even more this holiday! A project of the City of St. John’s in partnership with MusicNL.

Jingle St. John’s
6 p.m., Christmas Eve
Stand outside on your doorstep and ring a bell for two minutes to spread the magic of the season, hope for the year ahead and to demonstrate community and holiday spirit.

The holiday lights at Bowring Park, City facilities and other partners throughout the community will remain on during the holidays and offers another safe and self-directed way to take in the sights of the season.
