Friday, November 21, 2014 - 1:45 PM

The City of St. John’s is now accepting nominations for the annual Certificates of Recognition for Outstanding Work on Buildings in Heritage Areas.

Heritage Day takes place on the third Monday in February, each year.  During that time the City of St. John’s recognizes property owners for their outstanding work on buildings in the City’s heritage areas.

“The downtown heritage areas are the heart and soul of our City. We look forward to recognizing commercial and residential property owners for their work in rehabilitating, restoring and celebrating our rich built heritage,” said Councillor Sandy Hickman, Co-Chair of the Heritage Advisory Committee.

“We are pleased to announce that we are now accepting nominations for the 2015 awards”, added Co-Chair, Councillor Dave Lane, “we encourage all citizens to nominate property that you feel deserves this recognition, and we also encourage property owners to nominate their own property.”

“There are many examples of restorations and new buildings that blend well into our heritage areas,” Councillor Hickman stated, “and that’s the kind of effort we want to recognize.”

In 2014, three awards were presented:

  • Innovative Development & Design Engineers Ltd., for 42 Power’s Court, Anderson House
  • ZRCH Duckworth Street Incorporated, for 271 Duckworth Street
  • Adelaide Group Ltd., for 336 Water Street

Deadline for nominations is Monday, December 8, 2014.
