Official Opening of Labyrinth in Bowring Park

Today, members of City Council, in partnership with the Bowring Park Foundation, and the Cahill Family Foundation, marked the official opening of the Labyrinth in Bowring Park.

“Congratulations and thank you to members of the Bowring Park Foundation and the Cahill Family Foundation for supporting the Labyrinth project,” said Councillor Sandy Hickman, council representative for the Bowring Park Foundation. “This is a wonderful new feature for the park and the city as a whole. The Labyrinth, among other amenities in our park, provides important health benefits to residents.”

The Bowring Park Foundation has been instrumental in bringing this project to life, though research, identifying funding and choosing an accessible site within the park for this installation.

“Bowring Park has always provided solace to those in need of quiet time and contemplation, but the labyrinth is the Bowring Park Foundation’s first project geared specifically towards mental health support,” said Sheri Wicks, Chair of the Bowring Park Foundation. “The Cahill Family Foundation was quick to recognize the need for a quiet contemplative space for reflection and meditation and it is through their generous support that the Labyrinth Project was completed. The Labyrinth has already seen frequent users and will certainly bring comfort to our community for decades to come.”

The $227,000 project is funded in part by a $125,000 donation from the Cahill Family Foundation, with the City and the Bowring Park Foundation sharing the remaining cost.

“The Cahill Family Foundation is dedicated to supporting community services and enhancements, and recognizes the importance of building meaningful, long-lasting partnerships that enhance the quality of life for youth, families, and communities,” said Fred Cahill. “We are honored to be a part of this wonderful project with the Bowring Park Foundation and believe the Labyrinth will help support community wellness and foster a positive impact on its users’ mental and physical health.”

The Labyrinth is located in the west end of the park in an area known as the Squires Property. Positioned close to the South Brook Trail, it is a part of the Grand Concourse Trail network.
