Outdoor Active Thanks to Parks

a snowmobile drives the trail around Quidi Vidi Lake to make a better walking trail during winter

To support Dr. Fitzgerald’s advice to get outside and be active during the COVID-19 pandemic while remaining physically distant, we want to remind you of some services provided by City Park’s staff that can help you do that.

Did you know that during the winter months our Parks staff groom some of the more popular walking trails by snowmobile!

This is not a snow clearing service but does help to hard pack the snow making it a little easier for the high number of walkers on the trails at:

  • Quidi Vidi Lake
  • Mundy Pond
  • Kenny’s Pond
  • Bidgood Park

Bowring Park is a winter walkers paradise with roadways kept clear of snow to offer an off-street walking option. Dogs are welcome on-leash and under your control; pick up after your pet. The Bowring Park duck pond is open, please remember to use duck/bird food and not bread. Bowring Park trails that do not allow for physical distancing have one directional travel signs posted.

As well, sliding hills in Bowring Park and Victoria Park are regularly inspected by Parks staff to ensure a safe experience for all.

While the Winter Activity Centre is closed for equipment rentals, the trails in the Pippy Park campground continue to be groomed for classic and skate cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

Dog parks are maintained by Parks staff during winter and remain open at this time of the COVID-19 pandemic. Dogs are not permitted in City outdoor sporting facilities (ie. ball fields) but are permitted to be walked on-leash in parks and open spaces. Please pick up after your pet.

Please enjoy and respect City parks and outdoor spaces. Remember to stay within your bubble and practice physical distancing.
