Between May and October of each year the City of St. John’s conducts water main flushing to clean water mains and bring the highest quality drinking water to residents.

Flushing of the Petty Harbour Long Pond water transmission main will occur overnight from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning:

  • Monday, June 21
  • Tuesday, June 22
  • Wednesday, June 23

This work is conducted overnight to reduce the inconvenience to residents.

Discolouration or fluctuations in water pressure can occur during maintenance due to the intensity of the water flushing through the system. If discolouration occurs, run a cold water tap until the water clears.

More information about water main and hydrant flushing is available on the City website. A video about water main flushing is available on the City’s YouTube page.

Should discoloured water persist during the day, please contact Access St. John’s at 311 or 754-CITY (2489) or online.
