Between May and October of each year the City of St. John’s conducts a water main flushing program to clean water mains and bring the highest quality drinking water to residents.

Starting on Sunday evening, May 31 and continuing for approximately four days, flushing of the Petty Harbour Long Pond water transmission main will occur overnight between 11:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m.

This work is conducted overnight to reduce the inconvenience to residents.

Discoloration or fluctuations in water pressure can occur during maintenance due to the intensity of the water flushing through the system. If discoloration should occur, please run your cold water tap until the water runs clear.

Further information about water main and hydrant flushing is available on the City’s website. A video on water main flushing is available on the City’s YouTube page.

Should discolored water persist during the day, please contact Access St. John’s at 311 or 754-CITY (2489) or online.
