Parking and Traffic Restrictions on George Street

Monday, July 25, 2016 - 10:00 PM
West end of George Street

St. John’s City Council voted to continue its delivery on recommendations set out in the Mayor’s Advisory Committee on Crime Prevention report tabled in 2015.  Recommendations of the report include hosting neighbourhood forums, the ongoing development of Neighbourhood Watch, supporting youth-at-risk though partnerships, and creating a safe downtown.

In considering the recommendations for creating a safe downtown Council have agreed to restrict vehicular traffic and parking on the west end of George Street between Queen Street and Adelaide Street on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays beginning on July 28. This will result in less traffic congestion in the area and will improve access for emergency vehicles.

Parking meters will be bagged in advance and parking is prohibited from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Access will only be permitted for taxis and patrons of the parking lots on west end of George Street.

The public are reminded that alternate parking options include City Hall parking garage on New Gower Street, the parking garage at 351 Water Street, 330 Duckworth (Metro Park), and 215 Water Street (Atlantic Place).
