The City of St. John’s will be implementing a pedestrian-only zone in Quidi Vidi Village over weekends in the summer starting on July 1 until September 5, 2022.

“Quidi Vidi Village is one of our most colourful locations, and is a draw for tourists every year,” said Ward 2 Councillor Ophelia Ravencroft. “After hearing extensive positive feedback about last year’s pilot project through public engagement, we are once again pleased to implement a pedestrian-only zone in Quidi Vidi Village, so that everyone has a chance to explore this fabulous neighbourhood vehicle-free."

City crews will close Barrows Road and Stone’s Road to through traffic from Friday to Sunday, noon to 10 p.m., beginning on July 1 until September 5. Only local traffic will be permitted, and barricades will be staffed during these hours. Additional temporary accessible parking spots have been added in the area to help provide a more welcoming environment for all ages and abilities.

Access will be granted for Quidi Vidi Village Artisan Studio vendors and deliveries for business as well as users of the slip way for recreational fishing.

“Our goal is to allow all visitors a chance to experience this unique area in a way that is safe, inviting, and accessible, while still being practical for those living and working in the neighborhood,” said Councillor Ravencroft.

Bicycle racks will be installed in various areas in Quidi Vidi Village. Cyclists are welcome here. It is critical to the safety of the public that you ride slowly and respectfully, always giving pedestrians the right of way. Please walk your bicycle through the area if necessary.
