The City of St. John’s is currently planning for the replacement of century-old infrastructure beneath Water Street, a multi-year project that is expected to begin in 2016. In advance of the project, the City is asking residents, visitors and businesses to engage and share their opinions and ideas about how Water Street could be improved as this work is completed.

From Monday to Friday, Sept. 14 - 18, a design studio will be stationed at the Visitor/Business Information Centre, 348 Water Street, where people can learn about the project and meet with the consultant and City staff to offer perspectives and ideas for improving Water Street. Please see detailed schedule below.

In addition to the design studio, people can sign up to join the online engagement community - engagestjohns.ca - where more than 1000 residents are currently sharing their ideas. For those unable to attend the design studio, a public forum about the Water Street project will take place Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the Foran/Greene Room, City Hall. Additionally, key stakeholder meetings are taking place with the business community in the downtown.

Following consultations with the public and stakeholder groups the City will release a ‘What We Heard’ document to outline key principles of the refreshed street and themes heard throughout the engagement process. An open house will be announced later this fall to share the final concept plan with the community.
