St. John's municipal election vote-by-mail kit contents

Vote by Mail kits for the upcoming Municipal Election were inducted into the mail system on Friday, Sept. 8. Residents should receive their kit by Friday, Sept. 15. If you have not received your kit please contact the City to confirm you are on the voters list. You can:

  • Check the on-line Voter Registration Portal; or
  • Call 311 and talk to one of our Citizen Service Representatives; or
  • Visit our Access St. John’s Service Centre on the first floor of City Hall

We have heard from some residents that ‘Ballot Secrecy Envelopes’ in the Vote by Mail kits have been inadvertently glued shut due to humidity and rain.  If you have received a kit and are experiencing problems, your options include:

  • Open the ‘Ballot Secrecy Envelope’ as best as you can, use tape to seal it after you have inserted the completed ballot. Torn envelopes will be accepted as long as they are sealed; or
  • Use a plain envelope, label it clearly ‘Ballot Secrecy Envelope’ and seal it before you place it in the return envelope; or
  • Call 311 (by September 19) and ask the Citizen Service Representative to mail you a new kit. Please note that this will void your original kit and a new kit must be used; or
  • Visit our Access St. John’s Service Centre on the first floor of City Hall to receive a replacement kit. Please bring a valid Government ID with you that shows your address.

If for any reason you are concerned about the integrity of your Vote by Mail kit the City can mail you a replacement kit up until Tuesday, Sept. 19.  After that you will need to come to the first floor of City Hall in person, or you can go to one of the satellite drop-off centers on Election Day, September 26. Identification showing your civic address must be provided. On Election Day only, the satellite drop off centres will be located at the following locations:

Ward 1: Paul Reynolds Community Centre, 35 Carrick Drive
Ward 2: Knights of Columbus, 49 St. Clare Avenue
Ward 3: Royal Canadian Legion, 59-57 Blackmarsh Road
Ward 4: St. David’s Presbyterian Church Hall, 98 Elizabeth Ave
Ward 5: Southlands Community Centre, 40 Teakwood Drive
