Celebrate the New Year with free family friendly events for all ages.

Skating Party at The Loop
From 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 31 join us for a skate at The Loop in Bannerman Park. We’ll have a great time with party favours, festive music and free hot chocolate compliments of Beavertails! Please note this event is weather and ice dependent.
*The Loop is not yet open, staff are working to get it up and running once temperatures are consistently low enough to make and maintain the ice surface. Call The Loop Line 733-LOOP (5667).

Canada 150 New Year’s Celebration: It All Starts Here
Bring the whole family to the steps of City Hall for a live outdoor concert starting at 9 p.m. on Dec.31. Revel to the music of Shanneyganock, The Ennis Sisters, Eastern Owl and Stompbox, while enjoying performances by Wonderbolt Circus, an amazing pyrotechnics show, and a countdown to the New Year never seen before. Road closures and no stopping tow away zones will be in place in the New Gower Street area – details will be posted under Public Advisories. This event will also provide accessible parking, viewing area and public washrooms.

New Year’s Day Fireworks at Quidi Vidi Lake
Fireworks are scheduled for 8 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017. Starting at 7:30 p.m. we invite you to join us for a cup of free hot chocolate by the intersection of Lake Avenue and Clancey Drive. If weather conditions are not ideal on Jan 1, the fireworks display will be rescheduled for Monday, Jan. 2 at 8 p.m.

For safety reasons, the following streets will be closed from noon on Jan 1. until after the fireworks:

  • The Boulevard
  • Lake Avenue
  • Carnell Drive
  • Clancey Drive 

Vehicles parked in violation or parked such that they are obstructing traffic will be ticketed and towed. Parking lots on either side of the Quidi Vidi dog park will be closed. Accessible parking is available on a first come, first served basis in the Dominion parking lot.
 
Quidi Vidi Walking Trail – Partial Closure
The Quidi Vidi dog park and a portion of the walking trail around Quidi Vidi Lake will be closed for fireworks set up on Jan. 1, 2017 and will be reopened after the fireworks display is completed.
 
Pet owners - if your pet needs to go outside during the fireworks display, keep them on a leash for their safety.
