Statement on Workplace Investigation: 2017-2019

Wednesday, November 17, 2021 - 11:15 AM

The City of St. John’s confirms that it received inquiries from reporters on November 16 and 17 regarding a confidential and internal investigation into alleged workplace harassment. St. John’s Sports and Entertainment Limited (SJSEL) did not provide the report to the public, and does not consent to its release, any publication or reporting on it.

City legal counsel advised the news agencies that the distribution and disclosure of information in this report poses a risk of serious harm to the participants in the investigation. A cease and desist on any reporting, commenting on, or publication of the report or any portion of the report was issued, and noted that SJSEL will consider all legal remedies should any of the foregoing occur.

This report is protected under the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act, 2015 SNL2015 c. A-12. Any information provided to the investigators during the course of their work was given in confidence.  This breach is a very serious matter and we have immediately advised the office of the Privacy Commissioner.

Any publishing or reporting of legally protected personal information is a further violation of the individual’s privacy and rights.

It is so very unfortunate that this has occurred. SJSEL is notifying employees involved in the investigation at the time and will provide whatever supports necessary to prevent further harm from occurring.

Chair, St. John’s Sports and Entertainment Ltd.
