In spring 2020, new parking pay stations will begin to be installed in the downtown and throughout the City. Effective immediately, the City is no longer replacing damaged and broken parking meters, and all remaining meters have been removed from city streets.

During this transition period from parking meters to pay stations, 2-hour and 4-hour timed parking area signs are being installed in areas that were previously pay-by-meter.

Motorists are required to look for signage and obey the time limit set in each area. Businesses in St. John’s require parking availability for their customers, and these time limits are set to encourage parking turnover.

Please note that in August 2019, the City’s Ticketing Amendment By-Law was amended to address issues with vehicles parking in timed parking areas for longer than the set time limit. For example, if a vehicle is parked in a 2-hour area at 8 a.m., the vehicle must vacate the area by 10 a.m. and may not return to the same area until two hours has passed (after 12 p.m.).
