Winter Gull Workshop

When:
Sunday, February 9, 2020 - 10:00am to 1:00pm
Where:
Community Room, Dominion, Lake Avenue, near Quidi Vidi Lake

Did you know that Quidi Vidi Lake is internationally known for gull watching? The abundance and diversity of gulls attracts birdwatchers from all over the world.

Nature NL will be hosting a winter gull workshop with local bird experts Jared Clarke (Bird The Rock), Lancy Cheng and Alvan Buckley at Quidi Vidi Lake. Learn to identify the many species of gulls that hang out in St. John’s in the winter and spend a fun wintry day at the lake with birdwatchers of all levels.

This year we will be hosting an indoor portion of the event to learn about the gulls by PowerPoint Presentation before we step outside to the lake. Please join us at the Community Room at Dominion on Lake Avenue (right at Quidi Vidi Lake). Please pre-register so we can get an idea of participants for the indoor portion. There will be a slight cost (depending on the number of people $5 or less) for the indoor portion to cover the cost to rent the room.

Bring binoculars and scopes if you have them, otherwise a few extra pairs of binoculars will be available for use. Nature NL’s Winter Gull Guide will also be available for purchasing ($5.00).

We will meet at the Community Room, Dominion grocery store (20 Lake Avenue) at 10 am until 11:30 for the indoor portion. Then we will step outside to the lake and put this new knowledge to good use to identify those gulls! Please bring a re-usable mug if you would like some Hot Chocolate before we venture outdoors.

For those only joining for the outdoor portion of the workshop, we will be heading to the lake around 11:30/11:45 at the northeast end closest to the store. Please dress for the weather. Hope to see you all there!

Sunday, February 9th, 2020, 10 am – 1 pm, Community Room, Dominion grocery store at Quidi Vidi Lake, St. John’s

Note: In the case of bad weather and event cancellation, we will post the morning of the event.
