Guest Speaker Information: Ruth Lawrence, Director/Producer



Ruth will be sharing her experiences during her leadership roles in the filming industry and with theatre companies. Her leadership style is geared towards equitable treatment and respectful workplaces.

RUTH LAWRENCE’s feature film directorial debut Little Orphans opened the 2020 St John’s International Film Festival and was celebrated with a gala screening at FIN.



She directed the CBC TV doc, Circus by Komatik and was a writer/director on the anthology feature Hopeless Romantic.



Her award-winning short Talus & Scree was a national semi-finalist in CBC’s Short Film Face Off, reached #1 in the Short of the Month for February 2015 (with a Best Editor nomination), and was an official selection for the 2014 WIFT International Showcase.



Ruth won the Joan Orenstein Best Actress Award for Clipper Gold at the Atlantic Film Festival and SJIWFF's RBC Michelle Jackson Award for Emerging Filmmaker for Two Square Feet, starring Jeanne Beker.



She is a recipient of the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council’s Artist of the Year, the Queen’s Jubilee Medal, The YWCA's Woman of Distinction and AFBS's Leslie Yeo Volunteerism Award.



Since 2014, she has produced many short films and music videos for Blue Pinion Films including the award-winning shorts, Before the War, The Tour; Snowstorm Roulette, Waiting Outside, and Some Saturdays.



She was a co-producer on Martine Blue's feature Hunting Pignut and director of the 5-episode comedy web series Buy the Boards.



Ruth is also Artistic Director for White Rooster Theatre.
