Water Transmission Main Repair on Brookfield Road

From Thursday, June 8 to Monday, June 12 there will be no through traffic on a section of Brookfield Road, west of Pearltown Road. Area residents who frequently commute on Brookfield Road will need to adjust their travel route as the City repairs the water transmission main.

Repairs are required on one section of the 40 year-old transmission main, which carries water from the Bay Bulls Big Pond Water Treatment Facility to supply the west and central areas of St. John’s.

To complete the repairs, crews will operate heavy equipment to expose the water transmission main, resulting in no through traffic for the five-day duration of the project.

Commuters who regularly use Brookfield Road should take an alternate route, such as:
·     travelling east from Commonwealth Road in Mount Pearl can detour to Pitt's Memorial Drive.
·     travelling west from downtown can detour to Topsail Road or through Pearltown Road.

The timing of this work was chosen to be the least disruptive to commuters. This type of repair can be completed more quickly in the spring as water flows through the system are lower, compared to the summer when water consumption typically increases.

The Access St. John’s Call Centre is available to residents 24 hours a day, seven days a week, by calling 311 or 709-754-CITY (2489) or online at www.stjohns.ca/access-311.
