Smoke Testing- Durdle Drive

Location:
Durdle Drive
Start Date:
Wednesday, November 16, 2016 - 9:00am to 4:00pm

The City of St. John’s is currently conducting sanitary sewer vapour testing on Durdle Drive as part of the 2016 sewer assessment work. This will be ongoing today, Wednesday, November 16, 2016.

During the testing staff from the Environmental Services Division place a large fan over manholes in the street to blow artificially produced vapor into the sanitary sewer system. Staff walk the street and onto all properties to locate and record locations where the vapour is observed exiting from the system, in order to locate deficiencies and areas of the sewer system that need updating.

Vapor testing is industry standard and is an efficient way to identify problem areas. The vapour looks like smoke but it is not smoke, and fire is not used to create the vapour.

There will not be any service interruptions as a result of the vapour test and although staff are accessing manholes and working on your street, we do not anticipate traffic interruptions or delays during the project. We ask that you be mindful of the work activities in your area at all times.
