Fri, 2020/11/20 - 4:30pm

The City of St. John’s invites expressions of interest from persons wishing to become a member of the St. John’s Local Board of Appeal to fill two vacancies. The City believes in equal opportunity and is committed to reflecting the community’s diversity on our boards and committees.

The Appeal Board hears appeals of decisions of the City made under the City’s Development Regulations with respect to:

  • revocation of an approval or permit to undertake development;
  • the issuance of a Stop Work Oder issued under the Development Regulations; or
  • a decision permitted under the Urban and Rural Planning Act, 2000 (UPPA, 2000)

The Appeal Board is bound by the Development Regulations and URPA, 2000 and cannot substitute its discretion for that of Council.

The Appeal Board is comprised of five persons. The term of office will be from November 2020 to November 2023 and members may be appointed for an additional three-year term. Renumeration is $150 per meeting and given COVID-19 protocols hearings may be held virtually or in-person.

Members of the Appeal Board should have experience in at least one of the following areas:

  • land use development and community planning;
  • architecture, urban design, environmental design, law, engineering, construction or real estate; and/or
  • legislation and policy.

 Previous experience on a board or tribunal would be an asset.
