Kenmount Park Community Centre Grand Opening

Today, members of St. John’s City Council, provincial government representatives and residents of St. John’s celebrated the grand opening of the Kenmount Terrace Community Centre and Park.

“This purpose-built facility and park help to promote healthy and active living for area residents, and has something for everyone,” said Mayor Danny Breen. “Thank you to the many hard-working staff, contactors and community volunteers who played a role in the vision, design and completion of this new community hub.”

Located at 85 Messenger Drive, amenities include a full-sized gymnasium, multi-purpose room, kitchen, playground, splash pad, dog park, skate park, walking trail, outdoor basketball courts, and more.

“Residents of Kenmount Terrace and surrounding area have been actively engaged in planning for this community centre since the very early stages,” said ward Councillor Ian Froude. “We are very proud of the new space and thank the local community for their input and patience during the construction phase.”

Funding for the $10 million facility and park was cost-shared equally between the City of St. John’s and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.

“As a government, we work with municipalities as they pursue key regional infrastructure improvements. Our government is pleased to have supported Kenmount Terrace Community Centre, as this new facility will help create connections, bring people together, build volunteer capacity, and craft environments for healthy active living,” said the Honourable Bernard Davis, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation.

The concept design for the park was the subject of a robust public engagement process with the community, which began with the Kenmount Terrace Community Park Master Plan in 2015. Further details about the park are included in the attached backgrounder.
