The City is responsible for maintaining over 1,400 lane kilometres of streets. Streets come in different widths and have many diverse features and can have paved or gravel surfaces. Roads can have gravel shoulders and ditches or be paved with curb, gutter and concrete or asphalt sidewalks. Street signs, traffic signals, pavement markings and street lights are all integral to safely guiding vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic.

The City is constantly upgrading or maintaining all of this infrastructure whether it be through total street reconstruction, pothole repair, street cleaning or snow clearing.
